DMARC for Email Security

Protecting your business from spoofing and phishing

If your business relies on email, and most do, you’ve probably noticed more suspicious messages landing in inboxes in recent years. Cyber criminals are getting better at making fake emails look genuine, often pretending to be your own domain. That’s where DMARC comes in.

At IT Support UK, we help organisations across London and Kent put proper DMARC protection in place so their domains can’t be easily abused by attackers.

What is DMARC?

DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) is a standard that tells receiving mail servers how to handle emails sent “from” your domain.

It builds on two existing technologies: SPF and DKIM to answer a simple question:

“Is this email genuinely allowed to use our company’s domain, or is someone trying to impersonate us?”

If the answer is “no”, DMARC can instruct the receiving server to quarantine or block the message, instead of quietly delivering it to your staff or customers.

Why DMARC matters for your business

Implementing DMARC for email is no longer just a “nice to have”. For many businesses in London and Kent, it’s now part of basic cyber hygiene. Some of the benefits include:

  • Reduced phishing and spoofing
Attackers find it much harder to send fake emails that appear to come from your domain.
  • Protection for your brand
Your domain name is part of your reputation. DMARC stops others abusing it to trick your customers or suppliers.
  • Better email deliverability
When DMARC, SPF and DKIM are correctly configured, legitimate messages are more likely to reach inboxes instead of spam folders.
  • Visibility and reporting
DMARC generates reports showing who is sending email using your domain, including third-party systems you may have forgotten about.

Common problems we see with DMARC

Many businesses know they “should have DMARC” but run into issues such as:

  • A DMARC record added to DNS, but left in monitor-only mode for years.
  • SPF records that are too long or incorrectly formatted.
  • Third-party services (CRM, marketing platforms, payroll, etc.) sending email on behalf of the domain with no DKIM in place.
  • No one regularly reviewing DMARC reports to spot new risks.

Our team at IT Support UK see these problems every week when onboarding new clients. The good news: they’re all fixable.

How IT Support UK can help

We provide a complete DMARC implementation and management service for businesses in London and Kent:

Discovery and audit
We identify all the systems sending email for your domain, internal servers, cloud services, marketing tools and line-of-business applications.

SPF and DKIM setup
We configure or correct your SPF and DKIM settings so email authentication is solid before we tighten DMARC.

Safe DMARC rollout
Rather than jumping straight to a strict “reject” policy, we phase DMARC in carefully:

  • Start in monitoring mode
  • Analyse reports
  • Fix any legitimate services that fail checks
  • Gradually move to quarantine, then to full protection

Ongoing monitoring and support
As your business changes, so do your email systems. We keep an eye on DMARC reports, adjust records when you add new services, and troubleshoot deliverability issues if they arise.

Designed for SMEs, not just large enterprises

DMARC is often talked about like an enterprise-only technology. In reality, small and medium-sized businesses are just as attractive to attackers, especially those in professional services, finance, construction, healthcare and education.

We work with:

  • Local businesses with a single domain and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
  • Growing companies using multiple domains and several cloud services
  • Multi-site organisations across London, Kent and the South East

Our approach is practical and straightforward. We explain what we’re doing in plain English and make sure your staff understand the basics of email security without needing to become experts.

Based in London and Kent, supporting you locally

Because we’re based in London and Kent, we understand the way local businesses work. We can provide DMARC support as a one-off project or as part of a wider managed IT support package that covers:

  • Email security and filtering
  • Microsoft 365 management
  • Endpoint protection and patching
  • Backup and disaster recovery
